Maccabi Australia congratulates the recipients of the Maccabi Australia Jewish Sports Awards for 2008

Australian Jewish Sportsman : David Zalcberg (Vic – table tennis)

Australian Jewish Sportswoman : Tal Karp (Vic – football)

Australian Jewish Masters Sportsman : Michael Besser (NSW – triathlon)

Australian Jewish Masters Sportswoman : Anne Besser (NSW – triathlon)

Australian Jewish Junior Sportsman : Noam Tidhar (Vic – judo)

Australian Jewish Junior Sportswoman : Jodie Cohen (NSW – diving)

 

David Zalcberg represented Australia in table tennis at the Beijing Olympics and the World Championships and won the National Doubles Championships. He is a two-time Award winner.

 

Tal Karp was appointed captain of the Melbourne Victory in the inaugural season of the Westfield W-League marks. She is a three-time Award winner.

 

Anne Besser represented Australia at the World Triathlon Championships in Canada, won a silver medal at the Australian Olympic Distance Championships and bronze medal at the Australian Sprint Championships. She is a five-time Award winner.

  

Michael Besser represented Australia at the World Triathlon Championships in Canada, and placed in the Australian Olympics Distance and Long Course events.

 

Jodie Cohen was selected NSW captain for the Australian Aged Diving Championship and selected in the Pacific Schools Games.

  

Noam Tidhar won gold and silver medals at international judo events and gold at national and state events.

 
The Maccabi Australia Jewish Sports honors were first awarded in 1953 and the winners for 2008 follow in the footsteps of Maccabi heroes including Suzy Javor, David Emanuel, John Stark, Leon Nissen, Marshall Rosen, Julien Weiner, Debra Majteles, Robbie Foldvari, Ruth Buckstein, Michael Klinger, Gavin Fingleson and many others.

 

The Board of Maccabi Australia wishes the recipients continued success and close involvement with Maccabi for many years to come.
